Developing Leaders On The Court And Off

GirlzHoop (girlzhoop.com) is a youth basketball program located in Temecula, CA, serving the Inland Empire. We're more than just basketball; we're dedicated to developing well-rounded young women through a unique blend of leadership training, skill development, and competitive AAU travel ball.

Our focus extends beyond the court. We believe that basketball is a powerful tool that can be used to instill essential life skills. At GirlzHoop, we emphasize:

  • Leadership Development: We nurture leadership qualities in every player, teaching them how to inspire, motivate, and collaborate effectively. We empower girls to become confident leaders both on and off the court.
  • Skill Training: We provide comprehensive basketball skill development, focusing on fundamental techniques, strategic thinking, and game awareness. Our experienced coaches are committed to helping each player reach her full potential.
  • Travel Ball: We offer competitive AAU travel ball opportunities, allowing our players to test their skills against top competition and experience the thrill of team travel.
  • Holistic Development: We believe in developing the whole person. We emphasize the importance of good nutrition, healthy habits, and the value of hard work. We teach our girls how to be dependable teammates, positive influences, and supportive members of a community.

At GirlzHoop, we're not just building basketball players; we're building future leaders. We're committed to helping young women develop the skills, character, and confidence they need to thrive as adults. We use basketball as the vehicle, but our ultimate goal is to empower girls to become strong, successful, and compassionate individuals. Join us and experience the GirlzHoop difference!

Welcome to the GirlzHoop spring tryout/assessment! Our goal is to provide a fair and objective process for all players, ensuring they are placed in an environment where they can best develop their skills, build confidence, and grow as well-rounded young women.

Who Can Attend?

Girls are welcome to attend, regardless of their current skill level.

Assessment Process & Team PlacementAll participants will be assessed for placement on either a fundamental development team or a competitive travel team.

  • Fundamentals Program: Focuses on skill development through weekend classes for those eager to learn the game and develop core techniques.
  • Competitive Travel Teams: These teams participate in leagues and AAU tournaments from San Diego to Orange County. We call ourselves the "non-travel, travel team" because we stay within Southern California, limiting extensive travel while still providing a competitive experience.

Players will be informed of team placement shortly after the final assessment. We will work with middle school schedules for practice planning.Key Dates & Communication

  • Tryout Dates: We plan to hold 2-3 tryout/assessment sessions in late February. Exact dates and times will be communicated via email in early February.
  • Required: All players must have a signed waiver on file before participating in tryouts. The waiver can be completed online at girlzhoop.com.

We encourage every player to come prepared to give their best effort and have fun!

PROGRAM FAQS

YOU GOT QUESTIONS, WE GOT ANSWERS!

1. Who can join the team?

Our program is open to girls aged 9 -14 contingent on assessment. Tryouts may be required to assess skill level and team fit.

2. What age group is my Athlete eligible to play in?

2025 AAU Girls' Basketball Eligibility Requirements

*Grade Exception Rule: An athlete who is in the grade that matches the age group but is older than the age cutoff by no more than one year can still play in that division. Example: A 14U player must be 14 or younger as of August 31. However, a 15-year-old in 8th grade can still play 14U under the exception rule.

3. How often does the team practice?

Practice is held on average twice a week with an additional Leadership/Mental Skills training 1x/wk. The coaching staff will provide the upcoming week’s practice schedule and location details. Regular and consistent attendance is vital for players to develop their skills and foster teamwork. There will be no practice on holidays. Athletes are expected to maintain their training outside of scheduled practices during breaks.

4. How often does the team travel for games?

We travel on average twice a month for tournaments and games. The schedule is provided in advance to allow for planning.

5. What are the costs associated with joining?

Costs vary by season but generally include tournaments, uniforms, coaching, and facility fees. A breakdown of fees will be provided upon registration. Additionally, some of our tournaments require that each Athlete has an updated Sports Passport Account. The Passport is valid for one year and costs about $75. It archives each Athlete's journey, including verifying age and grade, tracking event participation, delivering real-time stats, box scores, and standings, showcasing achievements, and storing pictures and videos.

6. Can my athlete advance to a higher-level team?

Yes, athletes may have the opportunity to move to a more advanced team during the season depending on skill level, performance, and coach evaluations. Coaches will assess athletes throughout the season and may recommend movement if it benefits the athlete’s development.

7. How do players get to games and tournaments?

Parents are responsible for transportation.

8. What should players bring on travel days?

Athletes should have their uniform, warm-up gear, basketball shoes, water bottle, and any necessary personal items.

For out-of-town tournaments requiring overnight stays,  we will do our best to arrange hotel blocks for families. Families are responsible for booking their own rooms unless otherwise arranged.
